I just had a meeting with Rightmove (property portal) because I wanted to know how their website statistics stack up during the Christmas and New Year’s period.
Naturally, December is one of the slowest months for Estate Agents. Probably (and rightly so), we are more interested in food, friends, family, holidays, drink and parties, all of which require MONEY. Money which can’t be used on rent. Moving to a new property is probably not on the list of ‘things to do’ around this time period.
So, I went into this meeting with Rightmove with this notion that there is no hope in December for Landlords, but they pleasantly proved me wrong!
According to Rightmove, last year, they had over 1 million views on Christmas Day. OVER 1 MILLION! It’s almost the peak of website traffic. And that makes sense, what else are you doing while watching the Queen’s speech.
But that wasn’t the exciting part. It was the first working day of January last year that saw nearly 3 million visitors on Rightmove looking for property to rent and buy (you know, when you aren’t ”back in the work zone yet”).
January 2015 saw over 100 million viewers. This explains why January’s are one of the busiest in the world of Estate Agency.
So, in conclusion, December is one of the best times to market your property, ready for letting (or selling) in early January.
